Zacapa is an iconic distillery from Guatemala, globally recognized for its exceptional rum. Its uniqueness lies in the use of concentrated cane juice as well as natural yeasts extracted from pineapples, an artisanal method that imparts unique aromas and superior quality to the rum. After fermentation, the juices are distilled in a single copper column still, ensuring purity and finesse, before undergoing prolonged aging in cellars located at over 2,300 meters altitude, providing optimal conditions for the development of complex aromas.
The Royal edition is a rare Gran Reserva, produced in limited quantity and aged according to a traditional Solera system. This ancient and sophisticated process arranges barrels in several levels, from youngest to oldest. Young rums are stored on the top level, then year after year, the portions evaporated ("angel's share") in the barrels on the lower levels are replenished by rums from the upper levels. This complex process allows the rum to gradually descend the levels, creating a harmonious blend from different ages. The lowest level, called Solera, is thus a perfect mix of rums with rich and varied profiles.
