BOTRAN - Rare Blend - French Cask Finish - 40%
The exceptional Botran rums are carefully crafted in the heart of Guatemala, in the volcanic and fertile region of Retalhuleu, located in the south of the country. This prestigious distillery is one of the few to hold an AOC dedicated to rum, a label of excellence granted only in Martinique and Guatemala. This precious label, obtained in 2013, reflects the decisive influence of the Botran family, who worked for decades to gain international recognition for this unique terroir, offering an authentic and refined character to their rums.
Botran rums are produced according to a traditional Guatemalan artisanal method distinguished by the transformation of virgin sugarcane honey. This process involves heating fresh juices to concentrate their sweetness by evaporating water without using molasses, a guarantee of purity and quality. Fermentation is carried out using natural yeasts extracted from pineapples, bringing complex fruity notes. Distillation, performed in column stills, produces a rum of great finesse. Aging then takes place in cellars located at 2,300 meters altitude, in the heart of the Guatemalan mountains, where a cool climate allows slow and optimal maturation. The aging is inspired by the ancestral Solera system, using carefully selected barrels: ex-American Bourbon (200 and 225 liters re-toasted), Oloroso Sherry barrels (500 and 600 liters), and Port barrels (250 liters), to enrich the aromas and complexity of each batch.
Botran Rare Blend Vintage French Wine Cask is made exclusively from concentrated sugarcane juice, without added molasses, ensuring a rare gustatory purity. The cane comes from San Andrés Villaseca, in the Lowlands, while the meticulous aging takes place in Santa Rita, in the Highlands, benefiting from a microclimate favorable to slow aging. This exceptional blend is aged in 5 types of carefully selected barrels: American whiskey barrels (neutral and toasted), fortified Spanish wine barrels, fortified Portuguese wine barrels, and French white wine barrels. The finish is done in French white wine barrels, giving the rum subtle and elegant notes, a perfect marriage between Guatemalan traditions and European know-how.
