Ron Abuelo is a prestigious rum distillery located in Panama, renowned for its exceptional expertise and family heritage. Representing the culmination of three generations of enthusiasts, Ron Abuelo pays tribute to Don José Varela Blanco, a pioneer who left Spain in 1908 to establish the first sugarcane plantation in Panama. Since 1936, this house has produced exceptional rums, mastering every step of the process from harvest to bottling, all carried out exclusively on site under their strict management. Their artisanal method begins with the production of a long-lasting base syrup called "miel de caña," obtained from freshly pressed sugarcane juice. The water used comes from their own well, calibrated with locally cultivated yeasts for optimal fermentation. After meticulous fermentation into sugarcane wine, distillation takes place in a unique column still, ensuring purity and concentration of aromas. The young rum is then carefully aged in small ex-Bourbon oak barrels, bringing finesse and complexity. The rarest batches benefit from aging using the traditional Solera method, a unique process ensuring richness and subtlety. After several years of maturation, barrels are rigorously selected in batches, then blended in a larger barrel. The strength of the barrel, around 65%, is adjusted by adding demineralized water to 40% alcohol, and a hint of sugar is incorporated to enhance the tasting experience.
Abuelo Two Oak is a 12-year-old aged rum resulting from a refined blend of two distinct barrels. This rum was initially aged in carefully selected Bourbon oak barrels, then finished in American oak barrels with medium toast, which gives it intense aromas, a complex structure, and an elegant finish on the palate, ideal for connoisseurs of exceptional rum.
