Ron Abuelo is an iconic premium rum distillery located in the heart of Panama, globally recognized for the exceptional quality of its products. Ron Abuelo embodies the richness of three generations of artisanal expertise in rum production, paying tribute to the pioneer Don José Varela Blanco, who left Spain in 1908 to establish the very first sugarcane plantation in Panama. The distillery produced its first rum in 1936, perpetuating since then a rigorous and authentic tradition. Pioneers in their field, Ron Abuelo controls the entire process, from harvesting the sugarcane to bottling, thus guaranteeing impeccable quality and a unique taste. They cultivate their long-lasting base syrup, called "miel de caña," from freshly pressed cane juice, to which they add pure water from their own well, as well as carefully selected local yeast cultures. The fermentation produces an exceptional cane wine, which is then distilled in a unique column still, ensuring finesse and complexity. The young rum matures slowly in small ex-Bourbon oak barrels, giving it rich aromas and remarkable depth. The most precious batches benefit from aging according to the traditional Solera method, ensuring perfect balance and increased complexity. After several years of maturation, the barrels are carefully selected to be blended in a larger barrel, where the barrel strength of about 65% is adjusted to 40% with demineralized water, along with a subtle touch of sugar, to offer an optimal and harmonious tasting experience.
