Ron Abuelo is an iconic premium rum distillery located in Panama, globally recognized for its unique expertise and exceptional heritage. Ron Abuelo embodies the passion of three generations dedicated to the art of distillation, paying tribute to Don José Varela Blanco, a pioneer who left Spain in 1908 to establish Panama's first sugarcane plantation. It was in 1936 that the production of the first Abuelo rum began, marking the start of an authentic and rigorous tradition.
At Ron Abuelo, every step, from harvesting the sugarcane to bottling, is carried out with exclusive artisanal control, ensuring superior quality and full traceability. The core of their method is the production of a very stable base syrup called "miel de caña," obtained from freshly pressed sugarcane juice. The water used comes from carefully managed wells on site, and fermentation is carried out using yeast cultures carefully cultivated locally to promote complex and authentic aromas. Distillation is then performed in a unique column still, a process that extracts the purity and finesse characteristic of this exceptional rum.
The resulting rum, young and vibrant, is patiently aged in small American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, which impart delicate and balanced woody notes to each vintage. The most exclusive batches undergo aging using the Solera method, a traditional process that guarantees unparalleled aromatic richness. After prolonged maturation of up to 30 years, barrels are meticulously selected to create exceptional blends in larger casks, where the barrel strength, initially around 65%, is adjusted to 40% by adding demineralized water and a slight amount of sugar to reveal an optimal tasting experience, combining roundness, complexity, and balance.
Ron Abuelo Centuria represents the jewel of the Varela house and the pinnacle of premium rum. It is crafted from the most precious reserves, aged in Solera up to 30 years, offering rare aromatic depth and elegance that captivate discerning connoisseurs.
