Mortlach - 12 years - 43.4% ABV
The Mortlach Distillery is located in Dufftown, the prestigious heart of Speyside in Scotland, a region globally renowned for its exceptional whiskies. Founded in 1823 by James Findlater on the site of a former illegal distillery, Mortlach remains a living legend in the world of Scottish whisky. It was the only distillery in Dufftown until the creation of Glenfiddich in 1887, thus marking its unique footprint in history. From 1823 to 1853, the distillery underwent several ownership changes, even briefly becoming a brewery. In 1853, engineer George Cowie partnered with John Gordon to take over the reins of this iconic distillery. In 1923, Mortlach was acquired by the famous house John Walker and Sons, much of whose whisky was then used to create renowned blends. Today, since 2014, it belongs to the giant Diageo, ensuring quality and international prominence. The ancestral distillation process developed by Alexander Cowie nearly two centuries ago – affectionately called "The Way" – is still rigorously respected. This well-kept secret explains the uniqueness of its six stills with distinct shapes and the complexity of its copper pipes, designed to multiply the cuts and recuts of the spirit, giving the whisky its unique and complex character.
Mortlach 12 years old rests on a carefully controlled aging process in a skillfully balanced combination of European and American oak casks, offering this single malt exceptional aromatic richness and depth.
