Lochlea - Our Barley - 46%
The Lochlea Distillery is ideally located in Kilmarnock, in the county of Ayrshire (Lowlands) in Scotland, a region renowned for its rich heritage in whisky production. Founded on historically significant land, Lochlea was once a cattle farm owned by the family of Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet, who lived and worked there from 1777 to 1784. Traditionally, the barley grown on these lands was mainly used to feed livestock. Today, under the leadership of Neil McGeoch, the current owner, the farm has been transformed into a state-of-the-art distillery thanks to a building permit obtained in 2014. After six years of meticulous work, the historic buildings were renovated to house cutting-edge equipment dedicated to producing exceptional whisky. The distillery officially began operations in August 2018, initially under the expert direction of Malcolm Rennie, then led by John Campbell, the former renowned director of the Laphroaig distillery. The barley, a true local treasure, is grown exclusively less than 150 meters from the facilities, highlighting sustainable and local agriculture. This barley, patiently matured for 5 to 6 months, is used exclusively by Lochlea to craft a unique and authentic whisky, a guarantee of quality and authenticity.
Lochlea Our Barley is part of the prestigious seasonal editions offered by the distillery. This exceptional whisky has matured in a carefully selected combination of first-fill Bourbon casks, Sherry Oloroso casks, and STR barrels ("Shaved, Toasted and Recharred"), an innovative technique that brings complexity and aromatic depth to this exceptional single malt.
