Lochlea - Our Barley - 46%
The Lochlea Distillery is located in Kilmarnock, in the county of Ayrshire (Lowlands) in Scotland . As of 2006, Lochlea was a cattle farm once owned by the family of Robert Burns, and on which he himself lived and worked from 1777 to 1784. Barley was traditionally grown on farmland, mainly for food livestock. Current owner, Neil McGeoch , obtained planning permission in 2014 and the next six years saw the existing farm buildings converted to make way for a state-of-the-art distillery. The distillery was commissioned in August 2018, initially led by the experience and expertise of Distillery Manager Malcolm Rennie, and now under the direction of former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell . Barley is the flagship element of Lochlea; it is grown in fields just 150 meters from the farm, takes 5-6 months to mature and is only used by Lochlea to make whisky.
Lochlea Our Barley is part of the Seasonal Editions range. The whiskey was aged in a combination of first fill Bourbon, Sherry Oloroso and STR (Shaved, Toasted and Recharred) barrels.
