Lochlea - Fallow Edition - Batch 1 - 46%
The Lochlea Distillery is nestled in Kilmarnock, in the prestigious county of Ayrshire (Lowlands) in Scotland. Founded on an exceptional heritage, this distillery is located on a former cattle farm owned by the family of Robert Burns, the iconic Scottish poet, who lived and worked there between 1777 and 1784. Traditionally, the barley grown on these farmlands was mainly used to feed livestock, but today it is the cornerstone of Lochlea whisky production. The current owner, Neil McGeoch, undertook an ambitious transformation of the farm buildings in 2014, resulting in the creation of a state-of-the-art distillery inaugurated in August 2018. Initially led by expert Malcolm Rennie, the distillery now benefits from the vision and expertise of John Campbell, former outstanding director of the Laphroaig distillery. The barley used is carefully grown in fields located just 150 meters from the distillery, where it thrives for 5 to 6 months before being exclusively dedicated to the production of this exceptional artisanal whisky.
Lochlea's seasonal editions reveal four unique facets of their whisky each year. The Fallow Edition 2022 was aged in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks, sourced directly from Jerez, Spain, ensuring richness and complexity. This release symbolizes autumn, a season of rest for the land after harvest, as indicated by the term "fallow" meaning "left to lie fallow." This whisky, with its deep, dark, and enveloping character, is designed to offer comfort and warmth as temperatures drop, perfectly embodying the cozy spirit of the season.
