LONGROW - Red 11 years - 57.5%
The Springbank Distillery is one of only two distilleries still operating in the prestigious Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its ancestral expertise, it produces Single Malt whisky under three iconic labels with distinct profiles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by brothers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank became the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained as witnesses to the glorious era of this region. The distillery remains family-owned, managed by the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring authentic tradition. A true Scottish gem, Springbank carries out the entire production process on-site, including traditional barley malting, distillation, and bottling. This rigorous control allows the creation and mastery of three unique styles, each influenced by the careful choice of casks and the exceptional local microclimate. Furthermore, JA Mitchell & Sons, Springbank's parent company, relaunched the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the renowned Kilkerran brand, thereby strengthening its strong presence in the world of exceptional whiskies. The independent bottler Cadenhead's completes the group, enhancing its expertise and reputation on the international market.
The heavily peated versions signed Longrow stand out for their power and unique character. This range saw its first bottles distilled as early as 1973 with the ambitious goal of demonstrating that Single Malts with a style comparable to those from Islay could be produced on the Scottish mainland, thus bringing a new dimension to lovers of peated whisky.
Longrow Red is systematically bottled cask strength and produced in limited quantities each year, thus guaranteeing rarity and exceptional quality. This whisky is annually finished in a different type of red wine cask, enriching its aromatic profile with each edition. This vintage Longrow Red is made from peat-smoked malt dried for 48 hours, offering a controlled smoky intensity. It was aged for 7 years in American Bourbon barrels, then finished for 4 full years in Tawny Port casks, imparting both fruity sweetness and tannic complexity. In total, only 8,400 exclusive bottles were produced, making it a highly sought-after piece for collectors and enthusiasts.
