Clydeside - Stobcross Single Malt - 46%
The Clydeside Distillery is located in the heart of Glasgow, in the prestigious Lowlands region of Scotland. Glasgow, a historic and iconic city in the whisky world, was once a major hub for distillation and bottling, with about 40 distilleries operating in 1963. However, as the 21st century progressed, only a few survived, thus giving priceless value to those still active. It is in this context that The Glasgow Distillery Co., launched in 2014, marked a revival by becoming the first malt house to open in the city in nearly 40 years. At the same time, Tim Morrison, a recognized figure in the whisky industry and owner of AD Rattray, wished to revive the local tradition by establishing a new distillery on the banks of the legendary River Clyde. In 2011, Morrison Glasgow Distillers (MGD), led by Tim Morrison as chairman, his son Andrew as commercial director, and Glen Moore as general manager, acquired the historic site known as "The Old Pumphouse". Built in 1877 by Morrison's great-grandfather, this iconic building was meticulously transformed into a modern and innovative malt whisky distillery. The first distillation at Clydeside took place on November 6, 2017, followed by the opening to the public of a unique visitor center on November 23, offering an immersive experience around Scottish whisky.
Stobcross is the very first whisky marketed by The Clydeside Distillery. Its name pays tribute to the historic cross that once guided the road to Dumbarton Rock. It was along this same route that, in the 1600s, the Anderson family built a sumptuous manor, Stobcross House, which gave rise to the prosperous weaving village of Anderston. With industrial expansion along the River Clyde, Stobcross House was demolished in 1875 to make way for the Queen's Dock, a crucial element of global maritime trade and a symbol of Glasgow's commercial fame. This exceptional whisky is made from a rigorous selection of Scottish barley and pure water from Loch Katrine, a source renowned for its quality. It benefits from careful aging in the finest oak casks carefully chosen by the distillery, thus conferring aromatic richness and unique depth to this prestigious single malt.
