Lagg - Inaugural First Edition - Batch 1 - 50% ABV
The Lagg Distillery is ideally located in the south of Arran Island, Scotland, a region renowned for its ancient whisky-making tradition. Established by the prestigious Isle of Arran Distillers group, based in Lochranza in the north of the island, this distillery innovates by focusing exclusively on the production of peated whisky. In contrast to Arran's classic unpeated style, the Lochranza distillery has been producing a small quantity of peated malt for its Machrie Moor expression for several years. With the opening of Lagg Distillery in November 2017, Isle of Arran Distillers fully transferred peated whisky production to this new state-of-the-art site.
The distillery is dedicated to the in-depth exploration of peat, experimenting with a variety of yeast strains and several barley types to push the boundaries of traditional distillation techniques. More than just a distillery, Lagg is a true innovation laboratory. Additionally, with over 140 apple trees already planted on the surrounding estate, it commits to a sustainable and local approach by also producing its own cider and apple brandy, distinguishing itself from the Scottish trend that mainly leans towards artisanal gin production. Lagg Distillery made its first distillate on March 19, 2019, at 2:35 PM, marking the start of a new era, followed by the filling of its first cask, a rare Sherry butt reserved exclusively for privileged members of the Lagg Cask Society.
This exceptional first edition of the Lagg Single Malt is made from the Concerto barley variety, known for its superior quality. The peat used comes directly from northeast Scotland, ensuring an authentic and iodine-rich character. Produced through traditional double distillation, this unique expression is patiently aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, giving the whisky complex and balanced notes. Production is limited to only 10,000 bottles, making this first release particularly rare and prized by discerning enthusiasts.
