LA FAVORITE - La Digue 2021 - 52%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, renowned for its traditional expertise and exceptional quality, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it was renamed La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired it and undertook major improvements to transform this sugar factory into a renowned distillery. Despite a halt in its activity in the late 1930s, due to complications related to Albert Dormoy's gambling, La Favorite was revived in 1956 under the impetus of André Dormoy, who completely renovated it.
Today, La Favorite carefully cultivates sugar cane on more than 60 hectares, while sourcing from small local producers committed to sustainable agriculture. It still operates entirely thanks to a historic steam engine built in 1906, reflecting a deep respect for tradition. The vesou (cane wine), obtained from cane juice slowly fermented for nearly 72 hours, is distilled in two Creole columns, one of copper dating from 1957, and a more modern one installed in 1986, ensuring a unique quality and finesse in the world of agricultural rums.
This exclusive edition is made from the rare and delicate Canne Roseau variety (B59.92), from the emblematic La Digue plot, covering 4 hectares. After a slow and controlled fermentation, distillation took place in a copper column in June 2021. Bottled in January 2022, this cuvée is limited to only 8,500 bottles, making this rum a precious collector's item for enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
