The renowned Foursquare Rum Distillery (associated with Heritage Park) is located in the south of the beautiful island of Barbados. This iconic distillery belongs to the prestigious Seale family, proudly carrying five generations of unparalleled expertise in handcrafted rum production since 1820. As one of the oldest and most respected trading houses in Barbados, it embodies a unique historical heritage. At that time, Reginald Leon Seale faced a legal ban on selling rum directly to consumers, according to Barbados excise laws. His innovative response was to create a distribution company in Bridgetown in the early 1900s, thus giving birth to the famous R. L. Seale brand. Between 1962 and 1993, the iconic rums of ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur, notably Old Brigand, Taylor’s Falernum, and Doorly’s, enriched the house's portfolio. To optimize their market, ESA Field and Old Brigand were dedicated to the local market where they enjoyed strong popularity, while Doorly’s became the flagship export brand. In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the family acquired an old sugar factory, whose main building, dating from 1636, was then in ruins. This insight was successful, as the historic sugar factory was transformed into the modern Foursquare Distillery. Today, the distillery is equipped with a three-column still for light rums and a modern copper pot still to produce complex and exceptional rums, both using a traditional method from fermented molasses in small batches (usually 112 barrels). These rums benefit from tropical aging in small American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels in large open-walled warehouses, with wood often sourced from a renowned distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
The prestigious Sovereignty is carefully distilled using pot and column stills, then aged for a minimum of 14 years in a subtle combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. This unique edition was launched in November 2021 in the United States before conquering the French market in May 2022. This exceptional rum perfectly embodies Foursquare's traditional craftsmanship and innovation, captivating enthusiasts and experts seeking aromatic complexity, balance, and depth.
