SAVANNA - 12 years old - Single Cask No. 973 - Porto Finish - Vintage 2003 - Bottled 2016 - 46% ABV
The Savanna Distillery is ideally located on the Island of Réunion, a unique terroir globally renowned for its exceptional rums. Founded by the visionary Emile Hugot between 1948 and 1950, this historic distillery is situated in Saint-Paul, where it was originally integrated into the eponymous sugar factory. In 1982, the Savanna Distillery made a strategic acquisition by taking over a distillation workshop specialized in producing light rum intended for export, notably for a major contract with a leading German client. This major turning point allowed the distillery to perfect its techniques and intensify the diversification and quality of its rums.
Today, the Savanna Distillery exports the majority of its rums to demanding professionals, continuing to combine tradition and innovation. Like many exceptional rum producers, Savanna uses a discontinuous fermentation – also called the "mother vat" method – consisting of 8 fermenters of 100 m3 each, as well as numerous satellites. This artisanal process guarantees a rum of great organoleptic quality, rich in aromas and complexity.
This 12-year-old Savanna rum is a true gem of traditional aged Réunion rum. This Single Cask (#973) was distilled in 2003 before being placed in a Cognac barrel on May 10, 2004. Carefully selected in July 2016, it benefited from aging in a humid warehouse in a tropical climate, in barrels previously containing Porto, which gives it exceptional aromatic richness and unique elegance.
