Adelphi - Glenborrodale - 11 years - Batch 8 - 46%
Adelphi Selection is an exceptional independent distiller and bottler, based in the prestigious regions of Argyllshire and Fife, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. This iconic house traces its roots back to 1825, with the creation of the first Adelphi distillery in the dynamic Gorbals district of Glasgow. Founded by the visionary brothers Charles and David Gray, the distillery evolved under the name Loch Katrine Adelphi, referring to the vast innovative pipeline used to transport pure water from Loch Katrine to the city of Glasgow. Ten years after its creation, Adelphi changed hands to A Walker & Co, known for its large distilleries located in Liverpool and Limerick in Ireland. In 1903, it was integrated into the DCL (Distillers Company Limited) group, before the tragic cessation of its stills in 1907, following the "Great Gorbals Disaster" — a spectacular collapse of a fermentation vat causing a tidal wave of burning alcohol in the surrounding streets, with dramatic human consequences. The name Adelphi Distillery Ltd was revived in 1993 thanks to Jamie Walker, great-grandson of Archibald Walker, former owner, who revitalized the activity as an exclusive independent bottling company. In 2004, the company was taken over by Keith Falconer and Donald Houston, continuing the brand's excellence.
Recognized for its passion and expertise, the company specializes in Single Cask bottlings, rigorously offered without chill filtration or added coloring, guaranteeing optimal purity and authenticity. Each year, about 50 exceptional casks are selected and bottled, with an iconic range such as the name "Fascadale" which designates small batches from rare and often confidential island distilleries, at various maturation ages. With this approach, Adelphi also became a full distiller with the opening of the prestigious Ardnamurchan Distillery in 2014, a modern jewel in the heart of the Highlands.
Adelphi's visual signature is based on the famous drawing of the "Dancey Man". This historic visual represents Sir William Gladstone performing a dynamic "Pas de Bas" on a barley ear, celebrating a major legislative advance: from then on, taxes were calculated only on the amount of whisky remaining in the cask after maturation, and no longer on the initial volume, thus revolutionizing whisky tax and commercial practices.
Glenborrodale Batch 8 is a unique alliance, a prestigious blend balancing the rich notes of Glenrothes, Highland Park, and Bunnahabhain. This remarkable whisky, non-chill filtered, shows a naturally cloudy character testifying to its intact purity. A limited total of 1,404 bottles was produced, embodying the exclusivity of this cuvée.
