OCTOMORE - 12.3 - 62.1%
The Bruichladdich Distillery, an iconic jewel located on the exceptional island of Islay in Scotland, is globally renowned for producing exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three prestigious brands: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. In addition to these whiskies, the distillery also produces the famous The Botanist Gin, a benchmark in the world of craft spirits. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, Bruichladdich has experienced ups and downs, including a major fire in 1934 and several ownership changes, before closing in 1994. Its revival began in 2000 thanks to a group of visionary investors led by Mark Reynier of Murray McDavid, also famous for the Irish Waterford whiskies. The distillery was then fully restored, preserving its unique Victorian equipment while adopting traditional production methods that emphasize artisanal techniques without computerized processes. In 2012, it became part of the prestigious Rémy Cointreau group. Bruichladdich Distillery stands out for its rigorous traceability and deep commitment to the quality and origin of its Scottish barley, a key element of its exceptional whiskies.
The Bruichladdich range is characterized by non-peated whiskies, while the expressions with intensely peated flavors are marketed under the Port Charlotte label. The Octomore series represents the pinnacle of peat, offering Single Malts with the highest peat levels ever achieved, embodying the ultimate in innovation and aromatic power in the whisky world.
Octomore 12.3, an exceptional expression, was distilled in 2015 from Scottish Concerto barley harvested in 2014 at the Octomore farm itself. This masterpiece is the result of blending two distinct parcels of heavily peated spirit. The first parcel, representing 75% of the blend, was matured entirely in first-fill American whiskey barrels, bringing exquisite notes and remarkable complexity. The second parcel, accounting for 25%, was finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry (butt) casks from the Fernando de Castilla house, offering rich, indulgent, and captivating aromas. This exceptional whisky rested for 5 years to achieve a perfect balance between peaty intensity and aromatic finesse.
