BUNNAHABHAIN - 10 years - Vintage 2011 - Aonadh - 56.2%
The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the iconic island of Islay (pronounced "Ayla") in Scotland, famous for its Single Malt whiskies with unique maritime characters. Founded in 1881 by William Robertson in collaboration with William and James Greenlees, Bunnahabhain distillery combines tradition and expertise. From 1883, its production experienced steady growth, and in 1963, due to the increasing popularity of Scottish whiskies worldwide, it doubled its stills to meet demand. Despite a difficult period in the 1980s with a temporary closure in 1982, the distillery quickly restarted in 1984 to continue its pursuit of excellence. After several ownership changes, Bunnahabhain has been part of the prestigious Distell group since 2013.
Bunnahabhain's expertise is based on a rigorous artisanal process: the malted barley, lightly peated, is mixed with pure spring water from "Margadale" heated in the mash tun to extract a wort rich in aromas. Fermentation naturally takes place in Oregon pine vats, respecting traditional methods. Rare for an Islay whisky, none of Bunnahabhain's Single Malts are chill-filtered, preserving all the complex aromas and richness on the palate. Unlike the generally heavily peated and smoky Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain's profile remains soft and subtly iodized, ideal for enthusiasts seeking a fine and refined whisky.
Aonadh (a Gaelic word meaning "Union", pronounced "Oon-ouch") is a 10-year-old Single Malt, precisely distilled on February 7, 2011, and bottled on April 22, 2021. This exclusive expression is a harmonious blend between a Bunnahabhain matured in Port casks and a malt fully aged in Sherry casks, revealing exceptional aromatic complexity. This unique marriage gives Aonadh fruity, slightly spicy notes and a long, warm finish. Only 14,088 bottles of this edition were produced, making Aonadh a rare and sought-after whisky among collectors and connoisseurs.
