BALLECHIN - 2003 - 18 years - 54% ABV
Edradour is a prestigious whisky distillery from the Scottish Highlands, located in the charming village of Moulin, near Pitlochry. Recognized as the smallest traditional Scottish whisky distillery still in operation, it is also the last small farm producer dating back to the Victorian era still active. Edradour stands out for its unique heritage, notably marked by a historical connection with the New York mafia. Founded in 1825 under the name Glenforres Distillery by a cooperative of passionate local farmers, it has managed to survive through the centuries while preserving its authentic soul. In 1938, Irving Haim, agent of the famous New York mafia boss Frank Costello, became the main shareholder. Following Haim's death in 1976, the distillery was sold to an American-Australian consortium, then integrated in 1982 into a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard group. Since 2002, it has belonged to the prestigious group Signatory Vintage Ltd. The distillery still preserves many traditional characteristics today, employing unique antique equipment, notably the last Morton commercial refrigerator used to cool the mash tun, using exclusively cold water. No production process is computer-controlled, ensuring unmatched artisanal quality.
Ballechin embodies the highly peated version of Edradour, carefully matured in a wide variety of casks carefully selected to enhance its unique and complex aromas.
This limited edition Ballechin was distilled on May 26, 2003, and patiently aged for 18 years in an exclusive Single Cask (#808). This exceptional whisky was finished in first-fill Sherry casks, bringing richness and depth to its aromatic profile.
