EDRADOUR - 2003 - 17 years - 56.60 %
Edradour is an iconic whisky distillery of the Scottish Highlands, located in the picturesque village of Moulin, near Pitlochry. Known as the smallest traditional Scottish whisky distillery, Edradour is also the last small farm producer dating back to the Victorian era still in operation. It is famous for its rich history, including its fascinating connection with the New York mafia. Founded in 1825 under the name Glenforres Distillery by a cooperative of local farmers, the distillery went through several ownership changes. In 1938, Irving Haim, representative of the famous New York mobster Frank Costello, became the main shareholder. Upon Haim's death in 1976, the distillery was taken over by an American-Australian consortium before being integrated in 1982 into a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard group. Since 2002, it has belonged to Signatory Vintage Ltd. The distillery preserves artisanal know-how with period equipment, notably the mash tun cooled by the last commercially used Morton refrigerator, operating solely with cold water. No process is computer-automated, ensuring the authenticity of the whisky.
This limited edition of Edradour was distilled on October 15, 2003, and aged for 17 years in an exceptional Single Cask (#926). The aging was done exclusively in first-fill Sherry cask, giving the whisky rich, fruity, and slightly spicy notes. Only 674 bottles of this rare vintage were produced, offering a unique experience to true lovers of quality whisky.
