FOURSQUARE - Cask Strength 2009 - 60%
The Foursquare Rum Distillery (as well as Heritage Park) is located in the south of the beautiful island of Barbados. It belongs to the prestigious Seale family, with 5 generations of expertise in the art of rum making, a heritage that has endured since 1820. As one of the oldest and most respected trading houses in Barbados, this distillery has a rich history. Originally, Reginald Leon Seale, like several merchants of the time, was legally prohibited from selling rum directly to consumers under Barbados excise laws. Faced with this constraint, he created a distribution company based in Bridgetown in the early 20th century, thus giving birth to the famous R. L. Seale brand. Between 1962 and 1993, the rum range expanded with iconic references such as ESA Field, Alleyne Arthur, Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly’s, which enriched and diversified the brand's portfolio. To strengthen its presence in different markets, the company decided that the ESA Field and Old Brigand brands would mainly target the local market where they already enjoyed a solid reputation, while Doorly’s would become the flagship export brand. In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the Seale family acquired an old sugar factory, whose oldest building, dating from 1636, was then in ruins. This intuition proved fruitful, giving birth to the current Foursquare Distillery. Today, this innovative distillery operates a three-column still designed to produce light and refined rums, as well as a modern copper pot still to craft more complex and expressive rums. All rums are made from fermented molasses distilled in small batches (usually 112 barrels) and aged in tropical conditions, imparting unique flavors. The aging is done in small American white oak barrels, previously containing Bourbon, stored in huge open warehouses, mostly supplied by a distillery located in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
The Cask Strength 2009 from Foursquare is part of the prestigious Exceptional Cask series released by the distillery. It is an exceptional blend of rums distilled both in pot still and column still, resulting in remarkable aromatic complexity. This rum was aged for 12 years in Bourbon barrels on the island of Barbados before being bottled naturally at cask strength, Brut de Fût, at a high proof of 60%, guaranteeing an intense and authentic sensory experience.
