\nThis prestigious expression of Bunnahabhain is marketed by the renowned The Character of Islay Whisky Company. This independent bottler specializes in distributing exceptional whiskies from the Isle of Islay, highlighting the island's rich mythical heritage, here symbolized by the natural elements of wind and waves, in this edition titled "The Story of the Wind & Wave". Distilled in 2008 at the famous Bunnahabhain distillery, this whisky has benefited from an optimal aging of 10 years, ensuring unparalleled aromatic complexity and gustatory richness.
\nThe Bunnahabhain distillery is located on the emblematic Isle of Islay (pronounced "Ayla") in Scotland. Its fascinating history began in 1881 when William Robertson founded the distillery in collaboration with William and James Greenlees. From 1883, the distillery experienced a strong increase in production, peaking in 1963 with a doubling of the number of stills, reflecting growing demand for Scottish whiskies. The 1980s marked a challenging period for Bunnahabhain with a market decline, leading to a temporary suspension of production in 1982. However, recovery began in 1984, confirming the distillery's resilience. Over the decades, Bunnahabhain underwent several ownership changes before being integrated into the prestigious Distell group in 2013, which today supports its development and international reputation.
\nThe production process of Bunnahabhain whisky begins with a rigorous selection of slightly peated malted barley, delicately combined with pure spring water from "Margadale" heated in the mash tun to extract the wort. This wort then ferments in unique Oregon pine vats, giving the whisky a rich texture and a complex aromatic palette. Unlike many Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain Single Malts are never chill-filtered, thus preserving all the richness and depth of flavors. Moreover, unlike other expressions from the island, Bunnahabhain whiskies are not excessively peated or smoky, offering a softer and more balanced tasting experience, appreciated by connoisseurs seeking subtlety.
