BUNNAHABHAIN - 10 years - Heavily Peated Moine - Vintage 2011 - Islay Selection Signatory Vintage - 46%
\nSignatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington and has established itself today as one of the most prestigious independent whisky bottlers in the world, recognized for its rigorous selection and limited editions for exceptional whisky enthusiasts.
\nThe Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the iconic island of Islay (pronounced "Ayla") in Scotland, a region world-renowned for its peated and maritime whiskies. Founded in 1881 by William Robertson in partnership with William and James Greenlees, it has embodied Scottish authenticity and craftsmanship for over a century. In 1883, the distillery experienced flourishing production, accompanied over the decades by notable growth, especially in 1963 with the doubling of its stills to meet the growing demand for Scottish whiskies on the global market. Although affected by the whisky crisis in the early 1980s, with a temporary halt in 1982, Bunnahabhain quickly rebounded from 1984. After several ownership changes, it has been proudly owned by the Distell group since 2013, thereby strengthening its expertise and international reach.
\nThe production process of Bunnahabhain whiskies relies exclusively on the use of lightly peated malted barley and pure spring water from "Margadale," which is heated in the mash tun for wort production. The artisanally controlled fermentation takes place in Oregon pine vats, adding a unique touch to the aromas. Rare in the world of Scottish Single Malts, no Bunnahabhain whisky undergoes chill filtration, thus preserving the richness and depth of its flavors. Unlike the majority of Islay whiskies, known for their intense peated character, Bunnahabhain whiskies stand out with a softer and subtler approach, offering less smoky but equally complex and refined profiles.
\nThis exceptional expression was distilled in 2011 and benefited from meticulous aging of 10 years in traditional hogshead casks, ensuring optimal maturation that elegantly balances peaty power and woody sweetness.
