BUNNAHABHAIN - 30 years - 46.3% ABV
The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the iconic island of Islay (pronounced "Ayla"), a renowned cradle of exceptional Scottish whiskies in Scotland. Founded in 1881 by William Robertson in collaboration with William and James Greenlees, it is rooted in an authentic and historic tradition. By 1883, the distillery experienced remarkable growth, reaching optimal production. In 1963, with the growing popularity of Scottish whiskies, the number of its stills was doubled to meet increasing international demand. However, the 1980s marked a difficult period with a decline in the global whisky market, leading to a temporary suspension of production in 1982. The quick recovery in 1984 demonstrates the distillery's resilience. Since then, Bunnahabhain has changed ownership several times before being integrated in 2013 into the prestigious Distell group, a guarantor of excellent craftsmanship.
The production process of Bunnahabhain whisky begins with a rigorous selection of lightly peated malted barley, blended with pure spring water from "Margadale," heated in the mash tun, producing a wort of exceptional quality. Fermentation then takes place in vats made of Oregon pine, contributing to complex and unique aromas. True to its identity, Bunnahabhain refuses the use of chill filtration, thus preserving the richness and depth of its Single Malts. Unlike most Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain Single Malts are distinguished by a soft and moderate peat, without the characteristic smoky power, offering a subtle and refined aromatic experience.
This exceptional 30-year-old Single Malt comes directly from the Bunnahabhain distillery on Islay. Aged for three decades in rigorously selected oak casks, including notably Sherry casks renowned for their aromatic richness, it reveals intense complexity and remarkable depth, embodying the quintessence of old and refined whisky.
