BUNNAHABHAIN - 40 years - 41.9% ABV
The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the exceptional island of Islay (pronounced "Ayla") in Scotland, world-renowned for its exceptional whiskies. Founded in 1881 by the visionary William Robertson in partnership with William and James Greenlees, Bunnahabhain carries on an ancestral tradition and unique expertise. By 1883, the distillery reached a flourishing production, consolidated in 1963 with the doubling of its stills in response to the international boom of Scottish whiskies. Despite a halt in 1982 due to market decline, production resumed in 1984 and, after several ownership changes, Bunnahabhain joined the prestigious Distell group in 2013, thus strengthening its position among the great brands. The making of Bunnahabhain whisky begins with malted and lightly peated barley, carefully blended with pure water from the legendary "Margadale" spring heated to generate the wort. Fermentation then takes place in Oregon pine vats, ensuring rare quality and authenticity. True to its identity, no Bunnahabhain Single Malt whisky undergoes chill filtration, thus preserving all its aromatic richness. Unlike classic Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain creations stand out by having less intensity of peat and smoke, offering incomparable elegance and softness.
More than four decades have passed during which this exceptional whisky patiently rested in Bunnahabhain's maritime warehouses. These casks, long forgotten, were rediscovered by the master blender through meticulous examination of historical records. Heir to the renowned wine and spirits merchant J.G Turney, this unique 40-year-old whisky reveals itself as both extremely rare and of precious finesse, intended for the most demanding enthusiasts and discerning collectors.
