SPRINGBANK - 10 years - Local Barley - 55.6%
The Springbank Distillery is one of the last two authentic and historic distilleries in the renowned Campbeltown region, located on the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. It is famous for producing exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three distinct brands with unique and personalized styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, it became the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. In 1934, facing the decline of local distilleries, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained, confirming its historical prestige. Staying true to its roots, the distillery still belongs to the direct descendants of the Mitchell founders, ensuring a unique family tradition.
Clos des Spiritueux is proud to offer you this exceptional whisky, from an elite distillery respectful of its ancestral methods. Springbank is one of the few Scottish distilleries to master its entire production process on-site, including traditional barley malting, mashing, distillation, and bottling. This rigorous control allows the enhancement of the three distinct whisky styles, influenced by the careful choice of casks and the unique microclimate of Campbeltown.
The parent company of Springbank, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revitalized the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where it now produces Single Malts under the Kilkerran brand. Additionally, the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead’s is also an integral part of the group.
Springbank editions are characterized by a balanced use of malted barley dried with peat and air-dried. The specific Springbank distillation is done two and a half times, distinguishing it from traditional methods: Hazelburn is triple distilled while Longrow benefits from a classic double distillation.
The Local Barley series represents one of the peaks of the Springbank range, recognized worldwide for its rarity and superior quality. Initially planned as a limited collection of five bottles, its growing popularity led to its permanent integration into the regular range as limited annual editions. Each year, specific barley varieties, grown by passionate local farmers, are selected to enhance this exceptional whisky.
Until now, maturations were either entirely in Bourbon casks or mostly Bourbon with a slight finish in Sherry casks. This year, the team innovated by offering an exclusive 100% Sherry Matured edition, providing a unique aromatic richness and remarkable complexity.
This 10-year vintage was made from Belgravia barley grown at the Glencraigs farm, located only 4 km from the distillery on the A83 road, thus reinforcing its local and authentic dimension. The edition is strictly limited to 8,500 bottles worldwide, making this Springbank a must-have collector's item for enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
Aromatic profile: Smoky, complex, and intense, with notes of dried fruits, warm spices, and a subtle sweetness from the Sherry.
