TOBERMORY - 12 years old - 46.3% ABV
The Tobermory Distillery is emblematic of Scottish authenticity, located on the Isle of Mull, off the picturesque west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, it is the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull and ranks among the oldest and most respected commercial distilleries in Scotland. Its history began in 1797 when John Sinclair, a passionate kelp merchant, applied for a lease of 57 acres in the Ledaig area to establish a distillery and housing. Although his project was initially rejected in favor of a simple brewery, Sinclair persevered and founded the Ledaig distillery a year later, laying the foundation for a unique whisky tradition. Despite the economic hardships of the Great Depression and the slowdown caused by the American Prohibition in the 1930s, which forced the distillery to close for 41 years, the brand was revived in 1993 under the impetus of Burn Stewart Distillers. Since 2013, this heritage has been preserved and enhanced by Distell, a major player in the spirits world. Today, the distillery produces the celebrated Tobermory Gin as well as two distinct Single Malts: a gently sweet, non-peated Tobermory and an intensely peated Ledaig. These two whiskies have completely different characters, despite sharing the same pure water, stills, mash tuns, and washbacks; their diversity mainly comes from the malted barley used.
Tobermory 12 years old, introduced in 2019 to succeed the 10-year edition, embodies excellence and revitalized tradition after two years of major renovations. This single malt, matured exclusively in bourbon casks, offers a rounded, soft, and elegant aromatic palette that will appeal to both novice enthusiasts and discerning connoisseurs alike.
