The Springbank Distillery is one of the last two historic distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned worldwide for its unique expertise, it produces Single Malt whisky under three distinct labels with varied styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by pioneers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank is the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. In 1934, it was one of only two still operating, alongside Glen Scotia. Still owned by the direct descendants of the founders, this family distillery continues a legacy of excellence.
What sets Springbank apart is its exceptional artisanal process: it carries out all production stages on-site, from traditional barley malting to bottling, a rare quality control in Scotland. This expertise allows them to master three unique Single Malt styles, each influenced by meticulous cask selection and local climatic conditions. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, producing Kilkerran Single Malts. The independent bottler Cadenhead’s is also part of the group, enhancing the Mitchell clan's expertise and reputation.
Springbank whiskies are remarkable for their original blending, combining malts dried with peat and open air, then distilled using specific techniques: two and a half distillations for Springbank, three for Hazelburn, and two for Longrow, creating a unique and complex aromatic palette.
