PORT CHARLOTTE - 10 years - 50% ABV
The Bruichladdich distillery is located on the famous Islay island, in the heart of Scotland, an iconic region renowned for its exceptional Single Malt whiskies. This prestigious distillery produces several renowned whisky ranges, namely the labels Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore, each distinguished by its unique characteristics in terms of taste and peated expression. Additionally, Bruichladdich also produces the famous gin The Botanist, known for its refined botanical profile.
Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has endured several challenges, including a major fire in 1934 followed by the death of William Harvey in 1936. After several ownership changes and a closure in 1994, it was revitalized in 2000 thanks to a group of investors led by Mark Reynier from Murray McDavid, also known for Waterford whiskies in Ireland. The distillery was completely dismantled and carefully rebuilt, preserving its original Victorian equipment. It operates using a traditional gravity-fed process, without computer automation, thus ensuring authenticity and exceptional quality in every bottle. In 2012, the Rémy Cointreau group acquired Bruichladdich, providing strong support to increase its global reputation. The distillery places great importance on the origin of its barley, favoring local Scottish barley, which is a guarantee of terroir and excellence.
The Bruichladdich range is characterized by non-peated whiskies, while the heavily peated expressions are marketed under the Port Charlotte and Octomore labels. The latter represents a limited edition series with the highest peat levels ever achieved in a Single Malt, appealing to thrill-seeking enthusiasts.
The Port Charlotte 10 years is distilled exclusively from Scottish barley sourced from the Invernesshire region, reflecting the house's commitment to the quality of raw materials. It has been matured at 65% in first-fill American whiskey casks, 25% in second-fill French wine casks, and 10% in second-fill American whiskey casks, thus bringing subtle and deep aromatic complexity.
Peated at 40 ppm
