ARDBEG - Wee Beastie - 5 years - 47.4%
Ardbeg is an iconic distillery located on the island of Islay, in Scotland, globally renowned for its exceptional whiskies with intensely peaty notes. As one of the oldest and most prestigious distilleries on Islay, Ardbeg stands out for its boldness and innovation, having pioneered extraterrestrial aging by sending part of its production to the International Space Station in 2011 to study the impact of weightlessness on the complex aromas of its spirits.
Since its founding in 1798, Ardbeg has built a solid reputation, with commercial production starting in 1815, the same year as its illustrious neighbor Laphroaig. The distillery quickly responded to growing demand, especially for its unique whiskies used in the most renowned blends. Despite numerous challenges, including periods of bankruptcy and ownership changes, followed by a closure in 1981, Ardbeg was revived in 1989 before being fully relaunched in 1997 under the Glenmorangie group, now part of the prestigious French luxury group LVMH.
Equipped with two traditional stills, Ardbeg produces nearly one million liters of alcohol annually, exclusively available as exceptional Single Malts. The aging mainly favors Bourbon casks, complemented by maturation in Sherry Oloroso casks, giving the whisky a unique aromatic complexity. Characterized by an intense peatiness, Ardbeg distinguishes itself from other Islay whiskies by its subtle balance between smoke, spices, and malty sweetness, offering an incomparable sensory experience for discerning enthusiasts.
Ardbeg Wee Beastie represents the very latest permanent expression in the distillery's prestigious Ultimate range. This 5-year-old single malt stands out for a skillfully orchestrated maturation in ex-Bourbon and Sherry Oloroso casks, which enhances its complex and vibrant aromatic profile.
