ARDBEG - 10 years - 46% ABV
Ardbeg is an iconic distillery located on the illustrious island of Islay, in Scotland, renowned for producing some of the most peated and refined whiskies in the world. Founded in 1798, this historic house is one of the oldest on Islay and has built a reputation for excellence thanks to its unique craftsmanship and passion for peated whisky. Ardbeg made history by being the first whisky to travel into space: in 2011, the distillery sent part of its production to the International Space Station, exploring the influence of weightlessness on the maturation and flavor of its spirits.
Ardbeg whisky was first marketed in 1815, the same year as its famous neighbor, Laphroaig. Quickly, Ardbeg won over enthusiasts with a unique, powerful, and complex character. However, from 1838, the distillery went through a long period of instability with several ownership changes and financial difficulties, leading to its closure in 1981. It reopened in 1989, operating only two months per year until its purchase in 1997 by the Glenmorangie group. Today, Ardbeg is proudly owned by the prestigious French group LVMH, integrated into its Glenmorangie group, and production continues at full capacity with impeccable quality.
Ardbeg's two stills generate nearly one million liters of pure alcohol annually, exclusively dedicated to the production of exceptional Single Malts. Maturation mainly takes place in American bourbon barrels, complemented by finishing in Spanish sherry casks, providing unmatched aromatic depth. Ardbeg stands out for a strongly peated flavor profile, but also for a remarkable balance between intense smoky notes, spicy touches, and a subtle sweet softness, distancing its character from the marine flavors often associated with Islay whiskies.
Ardbeg 10 years old is universally recognized as the most peated, smoky, and complex Single Malt in its category, awarded by many experts and enthusiasts worldwide.
