CARONI - 1994 - 23 years - Guyana - 57.18%
The famous Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 in the state of Trinidad & Tobago (Trinity). This state-owned distillery had its own sugar mill, ensuring an optimal supply of raw materials, notably sugarcanes of exceptional quality grown locally. Prestigiously equipped with several types of column and pot stills, this iconic distillery remained secretive and shrouded in mystery for a long time. Very few of its rums were marketed under its own label, thus enhancing its unique aura. The spirits from Caroni are distinguished by an exceptional aromatic profile, marked by powerful notes of hydrocarbons, subtle sweet spices, and delicate honey, giving these rums an inimitable organoleptic signature. However, in 2002, the distillery was forced to close due to a severe crisis affecting the local sugar industry. This closure increased the rarity of its products, elevating these rums to the status of a true mythical treasure, sought after by enthusiasts worldwide for their intensely atypical character.
This extremely rare expression was distilled at the Caroni distillery in Trinidad in 1994. The rum benefited from an exceptional aging of 23 years, including an exclusive double maturation. Initially matured in Trinidad from 1994 to 2008, it then continued its prestigious refinement at Demerara Distillers Limited in Guyana until 2017, giving this rum an unparalleled complexity and aromatic richness.
