EDRADOUR - 22 years old - Vintage 1984 - 48.2% ABV
Edradour is an iconic whisky distillery from the Scottish Highlands, located in the picturesque village of Moulin, near Pitlochry. Recognized as the smallest traditional Scottish whisky distillery, it also represents the last small agricultural producer from the Victorian era still in operation. Edradour stands out for its rich historical heritage and its unique connection with the New York mafia, adding a mysterious aura to its prestige. Founded in 1825 under the name Glenforres Distillery by a cooperative of local farmers, it has endured through the ages with remarkable authenticity. In 1938, Irving Haim, an influential agent of the famous mobster Frank Costello, became the main shareholder, marking an intriguing chapter in its history. Following Haim's death in 1976, the distillery was acquired by an American-Australian consortium before joining, in 1982, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. Since 2002, it has belonged to Signatory Vintage Ltd. Edradour maintains traditional methods and ancestral equipment: for example, the mash tun wort is cooled using the last Morton refrigerator still marketed, using exclusively cold water, without any automated process or computer control, ensuring an exceptional, artisanal whisky of unparalleled quality.
This rare expression of Edradour 22 years old was distilled on May 23, 1984 and bottled on August 24, 2016. This exceptional whisky aged slowly in oak casks before benefiting from a delicate finishing in Pedro Ximenez casks, imparting richness, depth, and aromatic complexity. Only 669 numbered bottles were released, offering an exclusive tasting experience for lovers of rare and high-end spirits.
