The Savanna Distillery is nestled on the Island of Réunion, a true gem of tropical spirits. Founded and designed by master distiller Émile Hugot between 1948 and 1950, it was initially established in Saint-Paul, where it was integrated into the sugar factory of the same name. In 1982, the Savanna Distillery took a decisive step by acquiring a distillation workshop dedicated exclusively to the production of light rum intended for export. This strategic decision, linked to a major contract with a leading German market player, propelled the distillery into a new era of innovation and technical excellence. Since that date, rum-making technology has greatly developed, allowing increased diversification and a notable improvement in the quality of the rums produced.
Once aged using traditional methods, today the Savanna Distillery is recognized for the major export of its exceptional rums to industry professionals. Its discontinuous fermentation process – also called the "mother vat" method – relies on a set of 8 fermenters of 100 m3<\/sup> each along with their satellites. This artisanal process gives each rum a unique aromatic signature, a guarantee of superior quality appreciated by connoisseurs and discerning enthusiasts worldwide.
