FOURSQUARE - Nobiliary - 62%
The Foursquare rum distillery (also including Heritage Park) is located in the south of the beautiful island of Barbados. This iconic distillery belongs to the prestigious Seale family, who have maintained for five generations a unique expertise in the artisanal production of exceptional rums, with a history dating back to 1820. Recognized as one of the oldest rum trading houses in Barbados, it embodies tradition and innovation. At the beginning of the 20th century, Reginald Leon Seale, constrained by Barbadian excise laws, could not sell his rum directly to consumers; his response was the creation of a distribution company in Bridgetown, giving rise to the renowned brand R. L. Seale.
From 1962 to 1993, the range was enriched with rums from ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur, incorporating prestigious labels such as Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's, thus completing a robust and diverse portfolio. To optimize the management of these brands, it was decided to reserve ESA Field and Old Brigand for the local market where their strong popularity was proven, while Doorly was positioned as the flagship export brand.
In 1995, under the enlightened vision of Sir David Seale, the Seale family acquired an old sugar factory whose oldest building, dating from 1636, was in disrepair. This strategic acquisition led to the creation of the Foursquare distillery as we know it today. Equipped with a three-column still allowing the production of light rums and a modern copper pot still used to craft complex rums, the distillery maintains small-batch production, generally of 112 barrels, from fermented molasses. Aging takes place in tropical conditions in small American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, stored in large open-walled warehouses, many of which come from a distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, ensuring optimal maturation of the spirits.
The Nobiliary is an exceptionally aged rum, matured for 14 years in contact with a rigorous selection of first, second, and third fill bourbon barrels, imparting this spirit with remarkable aromatic richness, complexity, and balance that will delight the most discerning connoisseurs.
