LONGROW - Peated - 46%
\nSpringbank is one of the last two authentic distilleries located in the iconic Campbeltown region, on the Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland. Renowned for its exceptional artisanal craftsmanship, it produces Single Malt whiskies under three distinct brands known for their unique and refined styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn.
\nFounded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank Distillers became the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained in this historically famous region, and today, Springbank remains exclusively owned by the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring a family tradition passed down through generations.
\nUnique in Scotland, the Springbank distillery fully controls its production process on-site, including traditional artisanal barley malting as well as final bottling. This complete mastery allows the creation of three singular whisky styles, each influenced by a rigorous selection of the aging cask and local microclimatic conditions, thereby guaranteeing unmatched quality and authenticity.
\nWhiskies under the Springbank brand are made from a careful blend of peated and air-dried malts, with double distillation plus an additional "half" distillation. In comparison, Hazelburn is triple distilled and uses only air-dried malt, while Longrow is distilled twice.
\nThe heavily peated Single Malts are marketed under the Longrow brand, symbolizing the excellence of Campbeltown's peated whiskies. The first Longrow bottles, distilled in 1973, aimed to demonstrate that it was possible to produce Single Malt whiskies on the mainland comparable to the famous ones from the Isle of Islay.
\nHazelburn, first bottled in 2005, is characterized by triple distillation and the exclusive use of air-dried malt, delivering a lighter and more delicate profile. Its name evokes a former Campbeltown distillery, once the largest in the area, active between 1825 and 1925, under the ownership of Mitchell & Co. from 1920.
\nAdditionally, Springbank's parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, relaunched the Glengyle distillery in 2004, now producing single malts under the Kilkerran label, which are gaining increasing success. The group also includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's, ensuring a complete and diverse offering for exceptional whisky enthusiasts.
