Mount Gay is one of the oldest and most emblematic distilleries in the world, founded as early as 1703 under the name Mount Gilboa in Barbados. It now bears the name of Nicolas Sir John Gay Alleyne, a devoted director whose influence marked the history of the house so much that the distillery was renamed Mount Gay in 1852, upon his death. Technical advancements have continuously enriched this institution: the first Savalle column was installed in 1855, then three copper pot stills signed McMillian & Co joined the cellars at the end of the 19th century. In 1976, a continuous Coffey steel column was added to the equipment for blended rum production. Since 1942, the rums have been marketed under Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd., which became the property of the Rémy-Cointreau group in 1989, while the Ward family, owners of the distillery itself since 1918, continue the family tradition. This unique synergy between ownership and marketing guarantees consistent quality and remarkable authenticity to this day.
