Foursquare - Magisterium - 16 years - 58%
The Foursquare Rum Distillery (as well as Heritage Park) is located in the south of the splendid Barbados, an island renowned for its exceptional rum traditions. It belongs to the prestigious Seale family, which has accumulated five generations of uninterrupted expertise in artisanal rum production since 1820. Foursquare is thus one of the oldest and most respected rum trading houses in Barbados. Historically, Reginald Leon Seale, faced with the legal prohibition of selling rum directly to consumers under Barbados' excise laws, innovated by creating a distribution network in Bridgetown in the early 1900s, giving birth to the famous R. L. Seale brand. Between 1962 and 1993, the iconic rums of ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur, including recognized references such as Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's, enriched the family's portfolio. To optimize distribution and reputation, ESA Field and Old Brigand were focused on the local market where they dominated, while Doorly established itself as a flagship export brand. In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the family acquired an old sugar factory whose main building, dating from 1636, required complete renovation. This acquisition was decisive, giving birth to the modern and innovative Foursquare Distillery. Today, the distillery is equipped with a three-column still to produce light and fine rums, and a state-of-the-art copper pot still, dedicated to producing richer and more complex rums. All rums are distilled from fermented molasses in small controlled batches (usually 112 barrels) and then aged in tropical conditions to develop their unique aromas. Aging takes place in small American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, stored in large open-walled warehouses, many of which come from a distillery located in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
Magisterium is an exceptional blend of rums aged in precious ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. These rare rums have been distilled both in copper pot stills and double column stills, ensuring incomparable aromatic richness, then patiently aged for 16 years. The result is a rum of remarkable depth and complexity, illustrating all the expertise and passion of the Foursquare Distillery.
