Don Papa - Gayuma - 40%
Don Papa is a prestigious brand of exceptional rum from the Philippines, globally recognized for its quality and rich history. The name Don Papa pays tribute to Dionisio Magbuelas, nicknamed Papa Isio, an iconic Filipino revolutionary, overseer of a sugar plantation and healer, who played a key role in the fight against Spanish colonizers in the 19th century. The brand belongs to the Bleeding Heart Rum Company, founded in 2012, and the rum is distilled at the famous Bago Distillery, a historic establishment operating since 1902. Its creator, Stephen Carroll, with solid experience in major groups like Diageo, Seagram, and Rémy Cointreau, has combined traditional know-how with innovation. Don Papa rum is made from sugarcane grown in the fertile region of Negros Occidental, nicknamed the "sugarlandia" of the Philippines, distilled in copper column stills to ensure optimal quality. The molasses used comes from one of the 11 mills on the island dating back to the 1920s, which is fully autonomous thanks to its boiler powered by bagasse. The plantations, located at the foot of the Kanlaon volcano, benefit from an exceptional terroir ideal for cultivating noble and flavorful cane. While the classic version of Don Papa is enhanced with a subtle vanilla liqueur, the limited editions stand out with drier and unfiltered expressions, designed for connoisseurs and demanding lovers of premium rums.
Don Papa Gayuma is a high-end limited edition, remarkably aged in American oak barrels that previously held Bourbon, then refined in barrels that contained peated whisky from the Isle of Islay, Scotland. This unique process gives this rum a rare aromatic complexity, blending intense smoky notes, woody flavors, and hints of vanilla, offering an unforgettable tasting experience for fine spirits enthusiasts.
