Lochlea - Harvest - 2022 Edition - 46%
The Lochlea Distillery is located in Kilmarnock, in the prestigious county of Ayrshire (Lowlands) in Scotland, a historic and agricultural heartland renowned for its exceptional whiskies. Founded in 2006 on an iconic cattle farm that belonged to the family of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who lived and worked there from 1777 to 1784, the distillery continues this rich local tradition. The barley, traditionally grown historically for cattle feed, is now the noble and exclusive ingredient of Lochlea. Under the visionary leadership of Neil McGeoch, this family farm transformed starting in 2014 with a building permit leading to the creation of a state-of-the-art distillery operational since August 2018. Initially guided by the experienced master distiller Malcolm Rennie, Lochlea is now led by the talented John Campbell, former director of the iconic Laphroaig distillery. The local barley, grown just 150 meters from the facilities, matures for 5 to 6 months under an ideal climate, ensuring an exceptional raw material exclusively reserved for the production of this unique craft whisky.
Lochlea Harvest Edition represents the second expression of this annual limited edition series, a rare and precious variation following the Lochlea Sowing Edition launched in March 2022. This exceptional cuvée is deeply inspired by the harvest season at the Lochlea farm, a key moment when the barley reaches perfect maturity to be harvested and transformed into whisky for the following year. Its bottle, adorned with a label and a coral red box with ashen reflections, delicately evokes the magnificent summer sunsets and the reddish soil characteristic of Ayrshire after the harvest. This whisky has been patiently aged in a carefully selected blend of Port, Sherry Oloroso, and first-fill Bourbon casks, imparting a rich aromatic complexity and a perfectly balanced flavor profile with each tasting.
