OCTOMORE - 13.3 - 2022 Edition - 61.1%
The Bruichladdich Distillery is located on the iconic island of Islay in Scotland, world-renowned for its exceptional whiskies. It produces refined Single Malt whiskies under three essential labels: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. Additionally, the distillery also crafts the highly sought-after gin The Botanist. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, Bruichladdich has endured many challenges, including a major fire in 1934 followed by the death of William Harvey in 1936. After several ownership changes and a closure in 1994, the distillery was revived in 2000 by a group of investors led by Mark Reynier of Murray McDavid, also known for his expertise with Waterford whiskeys in Ireland. Fully rebuilt while retaining its original Victorian equipment, the distillery now operates without computer automation, using a gravity-fed system that promotes authentic quality. Since 2012, Bruichladdich has been part of the Rémy Cointreau group and places great importance on the traceability and meticulous sourcing of the barley used in its productions.
The Bruichladdich range is distinguished by its non-peated whiskies, while intensely peated expressions are marketed under the Port Charlotte name. The Octomore series represents the elite with a series of limited editions offering the highest peat levels ever recorded in the world of Single Malts, providing a unique tasting experience for discerning enthusiasts.
Octomore 13.3, distilled in 2016 from the 2015 harvest of Scottish Concerto barley grown at the Octomore farm, is a masterpiece of innovation and terroir. This exceptional whisky is aged for 5 years in a subtle blend of first-fill American ex-whiskey barrels combined with second-fill European oak barrels from prestigious regions such as Rivesaltes in France and Ribera del Duero in Spain, imparting remarkable aromatic complexity and a perfect balance between smoke and sweetness.
