PORT ELLEN - 1980 - Silver Seal First Bottling - 21 years - 43% ABV
Silver Seal is a prestigious brand of Italian independent bottling, recognized and distributed by Massimo Righi, the talented head of the specialized house Whisky Antique. This exclusive collection highlights the richness and diversity of the finest Scottish whiskies, while offering a carefully selected range of exceptional rums from the Caribbean. Each bottling is rigorously chosen to reveal unique and memorable expressions for discerning enthusiasts.
This rare expression comes from the famous Port Ellen Distillery, located on the iconic island of Islay in Scotland. Distilled in 1980 and carefully aged for 21 years, this exceptional single malt is drawn from a single cask, ensuring unparalleled quality and aromatic complexity.
The Port Ellen distillery is part of Islay's historical heritage. Originally established as a malt mill in 1825, it was developed into a distillery by John Ramsay between 1833 and 1892. The warehouses built at that time still stand today as listed buildings, bearing witness to the rich history of this institution. Acquired by the Distillers Company Limited in 1925, the distillery was closed in 1930 before being rebuilt in 1966-1967. It continued production until the 1970s before finally closing its doors in 1983. Despite this closure, the precious stocks of its Single Malt whiskies continue to be sought after and appreciated worldwide, offering an authentic and rare experience to connoisseurs.
