The Real McCoy - 10 years - Virgin Oak - 46%
The prestigious rum brand The Real McCoy is renowned for its exceptional Single Blended rums produced in the heart of Barbados, an iconic Caribbean island famous for its unique rum-making expertise. The fascinating history of the brand dates back to January 1920 with Bill McCoy, a famous rum pioneer during the American Prohibition era. He was the first to load a boat with pure alcohol in the Caribbean, sail it to New York, and legally operate as a floating liquor store located three miles off the coast. Bill McCoy's reputation rests on his integrity: he never adulterated his rum, thus guaranteeing a product of impeccable quality. The brand's founder, Bailey Pryor, had the visionary idea to create The Real McCoy Rum while making a documentary about Bill McCoy for American public television. During his research, Bailey visited the paradisiacal island of Barbados where he met Richard Seale, a 4th generation master distiller heading the family distillery Foursquare. Together, they developed an exceptional range of small-batch artisanal rums, distilled through an expert combination of copper pot stills and modern column stills and patiently aged in American ex-Bourbon oak barrels, imparting richness and complexity to each batch.
The Real McCoy 10 years is a prestigious limited edition, limited to only 3,000 numbered bottles, distinguished by its unique and controlled aging process. This exceptional rum undergoes separate maturation, aging 12 years in Bourbon barrels before being transferred for a 10-year finish in virgin oak barrels. This meticulous double aging allows for a harmonious and complex blend, revealing powerful aromas of vanilla, fresh wood, and spices, combined with a voluptuous texture and perfect balance on the palate.
