The Foursquare Rum Distillery, also known as Heritage Park, is located in the south of the beautiful island of Barbados. Owned by the Seale family, it benefits from the heritage and expertise of 5 generations passionate about the art of rum making, an uninterrupted family tradition since 1820. Today, this distillery represents one of the oldest and most respected rum trading houses in Barbados. At a time when Reginald Leon Seale and other merchants were prohibited from selling rum directly to consumers due to strict excise laws in Barbados, he innovated by creating a distribution company based in Bridgetown in the early 1900s: the iconic birth of the R. L. Seale brand.
Between 1962 and 1993, the distillery's rum range was enriched with the prestigious rums of ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur. Famous references such as Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's helped consolidate the brand's reputation. To optimize their commercial strategy, ESA Field and Old Brigand focused on the local market where they still enjoy great popularity, while Doorly’s established itself as a flagship export brand.
In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the family undertook the acquisition of an old sugar factory whose main building, dating from 1636, was in ruins. This initiative led to the creation of the famous Foursquare Distillery. Today, this renowned distillery has two complementary distillation facilities: a three-column still used for producing light rums and a modern copper pot still used to craft more complex and characterful rums.
All rums are distilled from fermented molasses, in carefully controlled small batches, usually consisting of 112 barrels, before undergoing rigorous tropical aging. The aging takes place in small American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels stored in vast open-walled warehouses, providing ideal conditions to develop unique aromas. These barrels mainly come from a historic distillery located in Lynchburg, Tennessee, famous for its exceptional spirits.
The Doorly’s 8 years is a true treasure of the Foursquare Distillery, crafted in the heart of Barbados using both traditional and contemporary methods. It is a harmonious blend of rums distilled both in pot still and column still, giving this rum remarkable aromatic richness and finesse. Aged for 8 years in American white oak barrels, this rum develops a balanced flavor palette combining vanilla, spice, and fruity notes, a signature of excellent Barbadian craftsmanship.
