PLANTATION - Panama 2008 - Single Cask 13 years - Bottled in 2021 - 45.7%
The fascinating story of Plantation begins in 1989 when Alexandre Gabriel discovers the prestigious Maison Ferrand in Cognac. Driven by a deep passion for craft spirits, he assembles a team of dedicated specialists and travels the globe to build a distribution network aligned with the values of excellence and the spirit of innovation of Maison Ferrand. From the 1990s, Alexandre Gabriel ventures into the Caribbean with the ambition to resell some of his used Cognac barrels to local producers, particularly those of exceptional rums. In search of the greatest terroir rums, he thus creates Plantation, an exclusive range of terroir rums with authentic and refined profiles. Today, the Maison specializes in three major categories of spirits: the prestigious Grande Champagne Ferrand Cognac, the globally recognized French Citadelle Gin, and Plantation Terroir Rum, a symbol of unique know-how. Plantation also owns the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados and holds shares in the National Rum of Jamaica, including the Clarendon and Long Pond distilleries.
This Plantation vintage comes from a distillation carried out in 2008 at the Alcoholes del Istmo distillery in Panama. This molasses rum was distilled in a column still, ensuring finesse and purity, before aging for 12 years in a tropical climate at Las Cabras de Pesé in 200-liter Bourbon barrels. To enhance its aromas, it underwent an additional one-year aging in a continental climate in Javrezac, in 400-liter Ferrand barrels. With exceptional aromatic richness, it presents a notable rate of 70 g\/hL of alcohol esters (AA), which give this rum remarkable depth and complexity.
