OCTOMORE - 12.2 - 57.3%
The Bruichladdich Distillery, iconic and authentic, is located in the heart of the Islay island, in Scotland, a region renowned for its exceptional whiskies. Bruichladdich excels in producing Single Malt whiskies under three prestigious brands: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. In addition to its whiskies, this renowned distillery also produces the famous gin The Botanist. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has a rich history, notably marked by a fire in 1934 and various phases of ownership changes. After closing in 1994, it was revived in 2000 thanks to acquisition by a group of investors led by Mark Reynier from Murray McDavid, also known for its Waterford whiskies in Ireland. Fully restored, it still retains its Victorian-era equipment, operates using a gravity system, and favors a manual production process without computerized control. In 2012, Bruichladdich joined the luxury group Rémy Cointreau, further enhancing its international presence. The distillery pays exceptional attention to the quality and traceability of its Scottish barley, a fundamental element of its identity.
The Bruichladdich range is largely non-peated, while its whiskies with strongly peated notes are expressed under the Port Charlotte brand. The Octomore series stands out with its limited editions featuring record levels of peat, making it the benchmark for peated Single Malts, celebrated by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
Octomore 12.2 is an exclusive edition, distilled in 2015 from Scottish Concerto barley harvested in 2014. This exceptional whisky has been aged for 5 years, combining equal parts maturation in first and second fill American oak casks, blended in 2019, before a remarkable finish in first fill Sauternes wine casks. This process imparts a unique aromatic complexity and smoothness to this single malt.
