Compass Box - Canvas - Limited Edition 2021 - 46%
Compass Box Whisky is a renowned Scottish whisky company, founded by the passionate American John Glaser in 2000. With experience in the wine trade and later at the famous distiller Johnnie Walker, John Glaser decided to create his own artisanal whisky brand from his kitchen. Today, more than a decade later, Compass Box Whisky has established itself as a reference in the Scottish whisky world by assembling perfectly matured whisky stocks in Scotland, with a dedicated blending room and a strategic office in London. The brand stands out for its exclusive sourcing of oak wood from the prestigious Vosges forests in France and the Missouri forests in the United States. Each cask is carefully selected for its unique qualities to create refined blends. After blending, the whisky is returned to casks, where it continues to develop its aromatic palette and distinct character over a period ranging from six months to three years.
In 2015, Compass Box sparked a lively controversy by revealing an unprecedented level of detail on its labels, including the origins of the distilleries, the types of casks used, the age of the whiskies, and the exact proportions of the final blends. Driven by the desire to promote total transparency in Scottish whisky, John Glaser launched an innovative campaign encouraging producers to disclose the full composition of their blends, thereby strengthening consumer trust and authenticity values.
Canvas is an exceptional limited edition launched in June 2021 with only 5,880 bottles produced. This unique blend consists of 43.4% multiple refill Bourbon casks from the prestigious Tomatin Distillery, 24.2% first-fill Bourbon casks from the Glenburgie Distillery, 15.4% American Oak re-toasted hogshead from the Glen Elgin Distillery, 10.9% Spanish Vino Naranja casks also from the Tomatin Distillery, and finally 6.1% first-fill Bourbon casks from the Imperial Distillery. This experimental Single Malt release benefited from an unprecedented maturation in Spanish orange wine casks for three years, giving it an exceptional aromatic richness marked by delicate fruity and spicy notes.
