The Torabhaig Distillery is located in the charming village of Teangue, in the heart of the Sound of Sleat, on the picturesque Isle of Skye in Scotland. Established in January 2017 by the Mossburn Distillers group, this distillery is one of the newest and most innovative in Scotland, being the second active distillery on the Isle of Skye. Set in a historic abandoned 19th-century farmstead carefully renovated over 4 years, it benefits from an exceptional location on the banks of the Allt Gleann stream.
Equipped with a mash tun capable of processing up to 1.5 tons of malt and 8 Douglas fir fermentation vats, the distillery uses two copper pot stills named Sir Iain and Lady Noble to distill one of Scotland's most powerful and phenolic peated whiskies. The production is managed by a dedicated local team of nine distillers, several of whom are promising new talents in the whisky industry.
The distillates from Torabhaig are carefully matured in oak casks, mainly in former American bourbon barrels, but also occasionally in sherry hogsheads, virgin French oak barrels, and other selected casks to enrich the aromatic complexity. This aging method gives the whisky exceptional richness and depth.
Each edition of the Legacy Series highlights a unique facet of the whisky revival on the Isle of Skye. The Allt Gleann edition comes from small batches, limited to a maximum of 30 casks, distilled and barreled between 2017 and 2018, thus ensuring exceptional quality and definite rarity on the market.
