HABITATION VELIER - MHOBA - Vintage 2017 - 4 years - 64.6%
Velier, an iconic house founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix in Genoa, Italy, quickly established itself in the world of premium spirits. With his partner Arturo Lupi, they launched in 1953 a traditional import company specializing in wines and spirits, notably champagne, grappa, but also tea and cocoa. In 1983, under the impetus of Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA, the largest Italian importer, Velier took a major turn by dedicating itself from 1985 to the exclusive import of the finest spirits, intended for gourmet establishments and demanding wine bars. Innovative, Velier became in 1988 the first Italian company to import New World wines. From 1992, the careful selection of rare casks of Single Malts and exceptional rums gave birth to their own brand in 1995. In 2001, Velier offered for the first time a prestigious selection of Damoiseau rums. Habitation Velier is a unique project initiated in 2015 by Luca Gargano in collaboration with the best master distillers worldwide. Each rum produced as Pure Single embodies an exclusive innovation, presenting unique and unprecedented characteristics for each distillery, a true reference in the world of premium spirits.
Mhoba is an exceptional amber agricole rum produced in South Africa. This rum is made from sugarcane juice fermented using a local baker's yeast combined with indigenous wild yeasts, thus creating an authentic and complex aromatic profile. The distillation is carried out with a traditional pot still designed by master distiller Robert Greaves. The Mhoba 2017 vintage aged for 4 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, directly at the distillery in South Africa, with an exceptional "angel's share" rate exceeding 22%, reflecting intense and concentrated maturation. Bottled uncut at a remarkable strength of 64.6%, this rum shows a high congeners content of 571.3 g/HLAP, including 246.1 g/HLAP specific congeners, revealing its aromatic richness and unique intensity.
