French Version - Eddu 2011 - 48%
French Version is a prestigious trading range offered by La Maison du Whisky, specializing in a rare and exclusive selection of exceptional French spirits. This range promotes short supply chains and advocates local and responsible consumption, ideal for enthusiasts seeking authenticity and terroir.
Founded in 1986 by Guy Le Lay, the Distillerie des Menhirs has established itself as an emblematic player in Breton production with a rich range including lambig, cider, apple juice, as well as the very first pommeau of Brittany. In 1999, the distillery innovated by launching whisky production, choosing buckwheat (sarrasin), a cereal with an extremely complex malting process. This unique method, more demanding than barley, results in a lower yield (1.3 kg of buckwheat per bottle compared to 0.8 kg for a barley whisky), but gives the whisky an incomparable personality and typicity.
This bold choice reflects the Le Lay family's desire to create a whisky faithful to the Breton terroir and its local culture, thus giving birth to Eddu, meaning buckwheat in Breton, recognized as the world's first buckwheat whisky. To ensure optimal quality, distillation and aging take place in a pair of Cognac-style stills, while aging favors casks that previously contained cognac, bringing finesse and aromatic complexity.
This Single Malt distilled in 2011 comes from an exceptional Single Cask, limited to only 498 numbered bottles, making it a true collector's gem. Slow reduction ensures purity of taste and unmatched aromatic richness.
