PORT ELLEN - 1981 - Gordon & MacPhail - 40%
Gordon & MacPhail is a renowned independent bottler of Scottish whisky and the owner of the Benromach distillery. This house is globally recognized for its exceptional and very diverse collection of rare bottlings, coming from some of the most prestigious distilleries in Scotland. Founded in 1895, the company began as a grocery and wine and spirits merchant in Elgin, in the famous Speyside region, in northeast Scotland. In 1915, the visionary former apprentice John Urquhart took full control of the company. Today, more than a century later, Gordon & MacPhail remains a dynamic family business, a symbol of authenticity and traditional Scottish craftsmanship.
The Port Ellen distillery is iconic and located in Port Ellen, on the island of Islay, in Scotland. Originally created in 1825 as a malt mill, this distillery was developed under the guidance of John Ramsay from 1833 to 1892. The historic buildings and warehouses he built are still preserved as listed buildings and testify to Scotland's rich architectural heritage. Acquired by the Distillers Company Limited in 1925, the distillery was closed in 1930 before being completely rebuilt between 1966 and 1967. It produced exceptional whiskies throughout the 1970s before being definitively closed in 1983. Nevertheless, stocks of its rare and sought-after Single Malt whiskies remain accessible and highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts.
Smoky, peaty, with remarkable aromatic depth, this 1981 vintage embodies the pure essence of Islay whiskies.
